Tips for Exploring Prague’s Bars

One of the biggest mistakes visitors make is assuming that Prague nightlife is all concentrated around Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square.

There are excellent bars throughout the city.

Old Town is perfect for cocktail bars and bar hopping, while Karlín offers a more local, modern atmosphere. Holešoviceis a great choice for alternative nightlife, and areas such as Vinohrady and Žižkov are worth exploring if you want to experience neighbourhood bars away from the main tourist crowds.

Another important tip is not to judge Prague bars purely by their exterior. Some of the city’s best cocktail bars are hidden behind unassuming doors, underground or tucked away on small side streets.

And remember that Prague’s nightlife generally gets busier later in the evening. Cocktail bars can fill up from around 8–10 PM, while many nightlife venues become busiest later at night. 

Final Thoughts

Prague is famous for beer, but its bar scene has evolved into something much bigger.

You can spend one evening drinking freshly brewed Czech beer in Karlín, another trying creative cocktails in an Old Town cellar and another watching the sunset from a rooftop overlooking Prague Castle.

That’s what makes exploring the bars in Prague so much fun.
